UK producer / distributor, AX1 Films has acquired all UK and Irish rights to HONEYDRIPPER, the exciting new film from John Sayles.

Regarded by many as one of the ‘founding fathers’ of American independent cinema, the director of such classics as “Return of the Secaucus Seven”, “Matewan”, “Eight Men Out”, “City of Hope”, “Lone Star” and “Silver City”, acclaimed writer, director and actor John Sayles returns with HONEYDRIPPER, his latest film, that continues his extraordinary examination of the complexities and shifting identities of American sub-cultures. Based on "Keeping Time" - his own short story, with his customary understated intelligence, Sayles uses the rhythms of the citizens of Harmony, Alabama to immerse the audience into the world of the Jim Crow south. It’s a fable about the birth of rock n’ roll - a quintessentially American subject, but with a fidelity to time and temperament that is unusual in an American director.

UK producer / distributor AX1 Films finished principal photography in London 23rd July 2007 on its latest feature project, the drama BROKEN LINES (working title).

Paul Bettany and Olivia Williams head the cast that also features Dan Fredenburgh and Doraly Rosa, who wrote the original screenplay, with BAFTA Award-nominated British director Sallie Aprahamian at the helm.

BROKEN LINES is an AX1 Films production in association with Cinema Two, the UK based production and financing vehicle set up by Matador Pictures and finance house Regent Capital (backers of last year’s Palme D’Or winning “The Wind That Shakes The Barley”)in December 2006. Other investors include the UK's Arts Alliance Media.

HALF NELSON continues its remarkable run amid the gauntlet of the awards season as it carries on picking up awards and nominations.

Widely applauded by critics in both the US and UK, Ryan Gosling has been nominated for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at the 79th Academy Awards 2007. Gosling also recently received a SAG nomination for his subtle but breathtaking performance. HALF NELSON has picked up five nominations for the 2007 Independent Spirit Awards, as well as taking home a trio of prizes at the annual IFP Gotham Awards. Along with the best feature prize, the film walked off with honours in the other two categories in which it was nominated - a director's prize for Ryan Fleck, who co-wrote the film with producer and editor Anna Boden, and a Breakthrough Actor award for newcomer Shareeka Epps. The Gothams marked the end of a very successful 2006 for HALF NELSON, which won 15 further festival prizes across the US and Europe, was named in over 70 American film critics’ end of year lists for best film, and enjoyed a very strong theatrical release in the US.

UK producer/distributor AX1 Films announced today the acquisition of all UK rights to the highly acclaimed independent US feature HALF NELSON from THINKFilm, which is selling the film internationally as well as releasing in North America.

Written and directed by Ryan Fleck, and starring Ryan Gosling and Shareeka Epps, the film receives its UK premiere at the London Film Festival today (27 October) after earlier screening at the Sundance Film Festival, and fresh from recent success at the Locarno and Deauville Film Festivals, where it won the Special Jury Prize at each event.
