In COLD WEATHER American indie director Aaron Katz (Gemini, Quiet City) returns to his native Portland, Oregon for a characteristically original and genre-bending take on the classic detective novels of Raymond Chandler and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
College dropout Doug (Cris Lankenau) lands a job working the night shift at an ice factory where he meets Carlos (Raúl Castillo). Although initially sceptical, Carlos soon warms to his new colleague after Doug lends him a copy of his favourite book, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. When Doug’s former girlfriend Rachel disappears one night, Carlos is convinced something has happened to her and suspects foul play. Together with Doug’s level-headed sister Gail (Trieste Kelly Dunn), they set out to investigate the mystery, discovering some uncomfortable truths along the way.
With the classic premise of the ‘Missing Woman’ driving its unconventionally elliptical narrative, and punctuated by a pulsating original soundtrack by Katz’s fellow Oregonian Keegan DeWitt, deadpan dialogue and engaging, offbeat performances, COLD WEATHER filters the great tradition of the detective novel through a two-way looking glass resulting in a highly memorable modern-day mystery.
