Writer and director Todd Solondz (Happiness, Welcome to the Dollhouse) examines the loss of youth in the darkly hilarious comedy DARK HORSE, featuring a stellar cast led by Jordan Gelber (Boardwalk Empire), Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions), Academy Award winner Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter), Mia Farrow (Rosemary’s Baby) and Justin Bartha (The Hangover). Tempering his trademark lacerating humour with unexpected tenderness, Solondz creates a poignant and provocative portrait of two dysfunctional thirty-somethings, their plans to marry and a besieged man-child and his fractured family.
Abe (Jordan Gelber) clings to the trappings of his adolescence and still lives with his disapproving parents, Jackie (Christopher Walken) and Phyllis (Mia Farrow). He works for his father’s real estate company yet spends his time browsing the internet for toy figurines. The success of his older brother feeds into Abe’s resentment, but things look on the up when he meets the beautiful but heavily medicated Miranda (Selma Blair) whose own life is going nowhere fast. As the unlikely couple plan a new life together, Abe’s grip on reality falls victim to his ever increasing need for fantasy.
